Asbestos medical recordkeeping standards are 30 years
The employer must keep an accurate record of all exposure measurements taken to monitor employee exposure to asbestos. This record must be kept for 30 years. The employer also must maintain an accurate record for each employee subject to medical surveillance. This record must be maintained for the duration of employment plus 30 years.
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been
proven to cause cancer and numerous other diseases when inhaled or ingested.
Asbestos is most commonly found in older homes, in pipe and furnace
insulation materials, asbestos shingles, millboard, textured paints
and other coating materials, and floor tiles. It was common
practice to add asbestos to a variety of products to strengthen
them and to provide heat insulation and fire resistance.

There are six different fibrous minerals that
are associated with asbestos. They are amosite, chrysotile, crocidolite,
and the fibrous varieties of tremolite, actinolite, and anthophyllite.
These mineral fibers are harmful if ingested in any manner, so it
is best not to handle material with asbestos without being shielded by a protective
covering.
The two most common diseases that occur as
